I just got off a sales call. He started with the typical question.
“Tell me about your business.”
And so I gave him the 10,000 foot level of what’s going on. I talked for probably less than 30 seconds.
And then he talked…
And he talked.
And he talked.
And he talked.
As I multi-tasked trying to find a way to respectfully get off the call, he asked what I thought of their particular strategy that has helped 100’s of coaches bring in 5-10 hot leads a day?
“It sounds a bit spammy to me.”
He assured me it wasn’t.
That assurance confirmed for me that he had no interest in my business and how his offer related to my clients.
He then told me the price. It was extremely reasonable and very doable as an investment for me.
But guess what? That call was a hard NO from me.
That sales call was 100% out of alignment with how I run my business.
It also made me annoyed that I wasted 20 minutes of my precious time.
Your business investments are a direct correlation to how you want to show up for your clients.
There are many ways to grow your business.
There are even more opportunities for you to invest in various strategies.
Before you invest, ask yourself:
- How do I want to bring clients into my business?
- Who do I want to partner with to grow my business?
- What do I really want?
- What do I really need?
If you’re just starting out, you’ll probably make some investment missteps.
Perhaps it’s an online course that promises you a shiny object that will catapult your business, but doesn’t deliver.
Or perhaps it’s a group program to build your strategy the way the group leader built theirs, but their strategy doesn’t align with your values, intention or needs?
I’m here to tell you, please don’t be too hard on yourself because of these missteps.
Unfortunately, many of us have made financial missteps in the beginning of our business and have come out the other side with amazing lessons!
